Mrs. Elizabeth Smith, 91 years old, widow of the late Enoch B. Smith, died at 5 this morning at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Flora M. Tennant, in Kokomo, where she had gone last Saturday for a visit. Becoming suddenly ill with erysipelas Sunday. Mrs. Smith's condition would not permit her to return to her home two miles east of this city and her illness grew worse until death relieved her suffering this morning. Mrs. Smith was one of the pioneer women of this county, having lived near this city for the past 74 years. Surviving her are four sons, 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The sons are Farnsworth of this city and William, Charles and Jackson, residing east of the city, The aged woman has been making her home for the past few years with her son, Charles Smith. Two brothers, William Vincent of Nebraska and David Vincent of Kansas and one sister, Mrs. Nancy Smith, Kokomo survive. In spite of her advanced age, rs. Smith ha been active and in the past two years has not been ill enough to b e confined to her bed more than two weeks in all. The disease which caused her death has afflicted her future, not always in a light form. Her sudden illness resulting in death was unexpected. Enoch B. Smith, husband of the aged woman died 14 years ago. He was one of the first settlers of this county and came to Crawfordsville when there was but one house standing in the village. 74 years ago Mrs. Smith came here and since that time practically all of her life had been spent near this city. An incident recalled by relatives is a visit paid the son, Farnsworth in this city last summer. Mrs. Smith, then past 90 walked from the home of her son, 92 E Market to the Wabash College campus and back to the home. She had enjoyed rugged good health until her sudden illness Sunday. The body will be brought to the late home east of the city and funeral services will be held at 10 Friday morning. The services will be in charge of Rev. Joseph and burial will be in the family cemetery on the farm.
